Where the comments are the content.

Some of the most entertaining content lives in the comments section of social media apps, yet the comments simply act as an accessory: barely acknowledged, buried under “View all”, forgotten by the next day. We know commenters don’t necessarily want to be content creators or influencers, but hope to be recognized for their creativity—so, inspired by this (and constant pun battles in my family group chat), I brought Commentary to life.

Commentary flips the script, making the comments section the product and turning it into a game users will come back for every day.

Users post comment-worthy content, then comments start competing for votes to make it onto the daily leaderboard and Hall of Fame. The top 3 each day can write a short acceptance speech, Oscars-style, and greyed-out accomplishment badges on user profiles turn full colour when achieved, video game-style.

Commentary pulls elements of everyone’s favourite platforms and puts them together, but… No likes. No views. No hashtags. No negativity. We’re creating a new social currency: Instead of “1M followers”, it’s “I’ve made the Commentary leaderboard 5 times”—making the spotlight accessible for different types of creatives.
